Brussels Entry Requirements


To enter Belgium, you do not need to provide proof of your vaccination status. To stay, work or study longer, for professional or other reasons, you must meet the entry requirements of the Belgian government. Check with the Belgian Embassy to find out what type of visa and/or work permit you may need. * It is important to note that the conditions of entry into the country may not reflect your risk of yellow fever at your destination. It is recommended to contact the nearest diplomatic or consular office of the destinations you will be visiting to check for additional entry requirements. If you are travelling with a temporary passport or emergency travel document, different entry requirements may apply. Before leaving, check with the foreign representative closest to your destination. Check with your shipping company for passport requirements before you travel. The validity rules of the passport may be stricter than the conditions of entry into the country. Check that your passport is stamped when you enter or leave the Schengen area as a visitor via Belgium. Border guards use passport stamps to check that you respect the 90-day visa-free border for short stays in the Schengen area. If the relevant entry or exit stamps are not included in your passport, border officials will assume that you crossed your border without a visa.

You may also be subject to different entry/exit rules. The Belgian government does not recognize the 12-page U.S. emergency passport issued by U.S. embassies and consulates abroad, as a valid travel document for visa-free entry into Belgium. If you are traveling with this emergency passport, immigration officers may deny you boarding and/or entry. Only direct transit through Belgium for a destination in the United States is allowed with an emergency passport.

You should check the entry requirements of another destination country to ensure that the emergency passport is accepted for entry. Each country or territory decides who is allowed to enter or leave through its borders. The Government of Canada cannot intervene on your behalf if you do not comply with the regulations for entering or leaving your destination. Visitors to Belgium who have tested positive for COVID-19 must comply with Belgian quarantine and isolation requirements. Belgium does not have hotels or special quarantine facilities for those who have tested positive, and you may need to arrange accommodation to extend your stay. The costs incurred by the extension of a stay in quarantine are the responsibility of the traveler. Visitors are strongly advised to ensure that their insurance policy provides sufficient coverage in the event that a stay needs to be extended due to a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. If your COVID-19 test is positive, you must comply with local health requirements and make sure you determine if your situation allows it before deciding on your trip. You should think about your need to travel to that country, territory or region based on the needs of the family or business, your knowledge or familiarity with the region and other factors. If you`re already there, ask yourself if you really need to be there. If you don`t need to be there, you should think about leaving.
